How a Charter Bus Builds Youth Ministry Relationships
- 2 Comment
Our youth had the privilege to go to the News Boys concert in Missoula, MT. Although the concert wasn’t well attended in my opinion, we all had a blast thanks to our Charter bus (I’m the bald guy in the back with a junior high kid on my back).
If you can get the financial numbers to work, I highly recommend having a chartered bus experience with your youth. It was great for both the adults and the students because we all got to spend some time with each other. The leaders were happy because they didn’t have to drive the students and worry about staying awake and “are we there yet?” questions being asked.
Here’s a peak inside our fun experience together:

I got know the students that I have on Wednesday nights a little better because of doing the trip this way. I heard it said before that one trip done this way is a whole month of youth group in terms of time spent with each other and if you think about it, it’s even better than the month of youth group because your not consumed with set up, tear down, message, music or whatever you need to do before or after youth group leaving you little quality time with your students.
I do realize that gas prices are high now, but doing a trip this way was priceless! I’m sure someone out there has some bus experiences that they could share;)

My first big experience in a new ministry role was taking a road trip on charter busses to California. It saved me a month’s worth of time getting to know students in those 8 hours of driving. It is more expensive, but also much safer.

I’ve had many similar travel experiences myself. Always a profitable time in building relationships with the group and sometimes having some serious talk time, one to one. Thanks for highlighting ‘bus’ ministry.
