Duct Tape Crucifiction

This is a fun youth ministry game to play during youth group or at your next Lock-In.
How do you play? - If you have a larger group, you will need to divide up into teams, each team select a person to duct tape to the wall. The team that has the person stay on the wall the longest wins. If you have a smaller youth group, just select the kid you like the least and stick him or her up there (kidding). If your group is smaller just select one or two people to stick up there.
What do you need? - Minimum 2 rolls of duct tape. Sometimes you may need more depending on how big the person is, but to be fair, you should probably use the same amount unless someone is twice the size of the other ones. You will also need a chair for the one being duct tape crucified to stand on until the taping is done, and then pull the chair out and see how long they stick.
Other Helpful Things:
- Try to get the whole team into taping the person.
- I had one girl stick up there for over 30 min. and one of her arms went numb so make sure noone is choking or getting their blood cut off.
- It’s a great transition into talking about Jesus being crucified.
- Make sure that you have someone timing each person from the time the chair is pulled to the time they come down.

I think our custodian would have a heart attack if he saw me do this…. lol… wouldn’t the tape make some of the paint come off the wall? sounds like fun!

although i’d probably suggest the possible dangers of doing this outweighs the fun of doing it. watching mythbusters on television i’m constantly in awe of the way they really thing through some of the safety stuff, like making quick-exit strategies if, say you’re being buried in sand and it starts to play with your breathing.
in this case there are no quick-exit strategies, if heat exhaustion, asthma, blood clots, blood pressure, blood circulation… any, all, or more of the above happen then we’re pretty screwed, have you tried cutting someone off of a wall they’ve been stuck to by tape?
or what if the wall doesn’t want to handle the weight? or if you use a pipe or a door or a beam instead and there are issues with the pipe giving way?
I’m just afraid it’s a bad idea from the getgo, looks fun, probably is, but not for youth groups…

Darren does raise some thoughtful caveats. I will say that I’ve done this at camp several times, outdoors, and there has never been any problem. You can actually pull the person loose very quickly and you don’t tape them very high off the ground/floor.

Hey all! Just wanted to say that our youth group had a “Duct Tape Madness” night a few weeks ago, and it was a blast! We played a couple relay games, we played “you have 4 minutes to tape someone up as good as you can.” Then we switched the taped person to another group and whichever group unwrapped the person the fastest got points. We went outside to do the “tape someone to the wall” bit, and it was great. No paint came off the walls. Unfortunately, we’re in FL so the mosquitoes came out and had fun with the people taped up. You can see pictures of our kids if you go to my blog by clicking my name! The only health issue we had was when the kids were taping each other up really well, one girl got taped a bit too tight and we had to cut some of the tape to get the circulation going right.
But she was thrilled to have a dramatic story to share the whole next week or so.April 18th, 2008 at 1:34 pm -

this is extremely innapropriate. it is not a good idea to teach our kids to “mock” or “have fun” with such a serious matter as the crucifixion. as one of the most important events of our christian faith, it would seem that we should teach our kids to have reverence and respect for it, rather than turn it into a silly game.

While this is fun (I tried this on my kids!), I have to agree with Megan’s post, the idea of calling it a “crucifixion” is a bit crass. You can still do the activity, but just call it “taping to the wall” or whatever. Any activity that involved discussing the crucifixion should always, without exception, be done with complete reverence.
