2008 Reasons to Do Youth Ministry in 2008!

I don’t know if we can get to 2008 reasons to do youth ministry, maybe I’ll be surprised. I will start with number 1 and then please add your reason via a comment and we will see how far down we make it. You can also forward this to others to see what other youth leaders reasons are. Maybe your reason is someones name, beating a student at Halo, picking off a Jr. higher with a dodge-ball, oh and spiritual reasons welcomed too.

1) To see the light bulb effect go off in a Jr. higher’s mind about God by the expression on his or her’s face….

When it’s your calling do not avoid it. To prevent the wrath of God.

    4) its better than selling cars or insurance

    5) in 2020, these students will be on their own - maybe even with their own family

    6) pizza parties

    7) all those middle school girls basketball games

    8) Never having to pay for lunch on Thursdays (thanks to the leftover pizza)

    9) Because Jesus said so (”let all the children come to me”)

    10) Because the seniors ministry needs SOMEONE to gripe at.

    11) Because without youth ministry there’d be no rules for the church buildings

    12) Because young people still believe they’re on an adventure, and that excitement is contagious and transformative.

    13) ‘But how can people call for help if they don’t know who to trust? And how can they know who to trust if they haven’t heard of the One who can be trusted? And how can they hear if nobody tells them? And how is anyone going to tell them, unless someone is sent to do it?’ (Rom 10:14, Message)
A reason to do youth ministry? Sums it up for me!

14)For what the youth teach me about God.
15)A chance to revisit some great scriptures as if I’ve never heard them before (because some of the youth I’m teaching are hearing them for the first time).
16)To see if I can still stay up all night at a lock-in.
17)Because I’m lucky enough to be called to this ministry within the Church.
