Funny Picture Night
This will take some prep before you begin your youth night, however, it could be a lot of fun if it’s done well.
There is software out there (the below pictures were done on a MAC) that allows you to take pictures and twist the image around- creating some rather funny looking faces.
Here’s how it would go down: Prep (have the pictures done) before the night starts and then say tonight we are going to take a look at some slides to see if you recognize some of these folks.
Begin Slide Show [play music of your choice during the slide show]
After you have gotten through all of the pictures (set it slower for smaller groups and faster for larger groups - I would also include leaders for fun) talk a little about the slides.
Ask questions like, “What if we actually looked like some of the pictures that we just saw?”
[responses]
Then say something like, “These images really made me laugh, but have you ever thought of how others see you?” “Have you ever had a thought that you physically feel messed up like some of the pictures we just saw?” “Someone says something hurtful and suddenly you feel like the ugliest lowliest person on earth.”
Go to the Word: You can use verses of your choice, maybe something like: Psalm 139: 13-16.
Assure them that God created them the way they are for a purpose and that he loves them so much because we are the sons and daughters of God himself.
To end the night split up your group with an adult leader. Try to keep it no more than 4 in a group and have the adult leader pray over each student a prayer of encouragement.
Here is some examples using my family:
