Digital Youth Rooms (Youth Roots)

Here is a cool youth ministry idea for your youth group. It’s called, “Youth Roots”. It’s youth group based social network. I just was emailed this info from Scott Rosenblum:

“Hello Steve,

For your blog, I thought you might be interested in learning more about religious social networking reaching the youth.  While social networking sites MySpace and Facebook are becoming more popular, there is also a growing concern about their content, as seen recently with the news about the sexual predators found on their sites.   Accordingly, religious organizations are responding to a demand for family-friendly and safe alternatives as faith groups nationwide are establishing religious-themed social networking groups on the Internet. These sites allow users to create prayer groups, connect with congregant and clergy, even discuss movies and find potential significant others. One of these is called YouthRoots.com.

YouthRoots.com is  a digital faith-based community and “electronic wing,” where religious leaders and their youth members can co-coordinate activities, have discussions and communicate with one another. It also serves as a safe haven for young people looking for an alternative to free-for-all sites such as MySpace and Facebook.  Unlike some of its contemporaries, like Xianz, Smooze and Naseeb,  YouthRoots is designed for all religious denominations who are looking for a social media tool that connects and brings together the younger members of the flock.

If you need additional information, please feel free to contact me.

Thanks,

Scott”

Thanks Scott for getting this information to me!

I have checked over the site already and it seems like it could be a great alternative from myspace for youth groups and it’s FREE! I do believe however if you have a larger group you may need to upgrade to a premium membership.

If there is someone who visits this blog that is using this service, please leave a comment about what you think of it!
