The Fastest Text in the West

Last week I spoke at a youth group and one of the students suggested doing a game to see who was the quickest at text messaging. I thought it would be a great game for today’s age.

This game can be great for an upfront game or just something to kick off your meeting time and give away a prize or treat.

How to play:

Have everyone that has a cell phone get them out and text to your phone a simple message that you project on your screen. The first person to get you the text message in correct spelling wins!

Tips and Variations:

  • You can have the first 5 text messengers come up to the front for a Text Off. Give them 3 chances to see who is the fastest.
  • Show a verse and the first person to correctly text in which book of the Bible in came from wins.
  • Do a text for an entry to a prize or event that you are doing. Have those that want to enter text a phrase or number to your phone and then enter them in for a drawing.

we’ve done games exactly like this at our church. it’s lead to a lot of mischief. kids in the audience will text the contestants as they compete (making it impossible for them to type.) also, in the first part our pastor’s phone was so overloaded that he couldn’t even check to see who won (and we don’t have THAT many kids).

still, very fun and seems to engage the kids more than most games we do.

Thanks for the tip Josh - really sounds like chaos! But at the same time it still sounds like fun too!

My church actually did this with me during my welcome party last February. It was me versus several youth group kids… and I won every time! lol
