Help Find Your YP’s Stuff!

steves-items-001.jpg

This game is pretty easy to do-it’s basically a scavenger hunt for stuff that you use in youth ministry.

How to play:

Find stuff that you may use to do your work in youth ministry. I use my laptop a lot, but I’m not going to chance it by hiding it and then having some kid break it or steal it (how would I explain that one to leaders?). Let your volunteers have fun by hiding the items outside the church or meeting place about 30 minutes before you start.

I took a picture of all the items and then I took a picture of each item for a close-up look. When you have everyone together in your meeting place say something like:

I need your help! Some of the stuff that helps me do my job throughout the week has been lost outside. I thought that I would see whose really better at finding stuff: Girls or Guys. For the next 10 min I want you to race each other to find the following items (show the items on screen).

Dertermine how many points for each item. Give more points for the harder items to find such as a paper clip and rubber band.

This game really worked well with Jr. high and I’m guessing maybe that it suits them more. I had students find some things that were lost that we weren’t looking for. I got a couple extra pens, 2 tennis balls, and an extra rubber band.

Couple of tips:

  1. Make sure your volunteers take with them a sheet of paper and write down where they hid the items so that if your students don’t find them, you can get them back
  2. List them on some type of board or screen and as they bring the stuff in cross them off and designate if guys or girls got credit for the find.
  3. As you are telling them about the different items, throw into the mix something funny like your stuffed animal that you cuddle with while taking your afternoon nap in your office - not me of course, but if that’s what you do share it with them. This will get them more engaged to go find your favorite teddy and participate.
